The sky-high price of gold has triggered a modern gold rush in Peru that’s poisoning the Amazon and its people.
This reminds me a lot of the slaughter of elephants and rhinos in Africa. I can barely think about that and still function as a person. This feels equally as terrible in it’s own way. Economics are a central component of both situations.
When I think about solutions, one of the primary issues I see that can help is to elevate the opportunities for people in poorer countries. We have our own battle to wage here for the poorer people in this country, but both can happen simultaneously.
